How it works
Sponsoring a child is a unique program that connects one child in need with a generous, compassionate person or family. Becoming a sponsor means giving children at our Children Center the chance to grow up healthy, educated, and safe. You will have the opportunity to directly and positively impact the life of a child and to witness that child’s development during his/her journey to maturity and success.
How much is a sponsorship?

You will have the opportunity to directly and positively impact the life of a child and to witness that child’s development during his/her journey to maturity and success.

We carefully study the children’s backgrounds when bringing them into the family. We don’t just take in abused, neglected, or at-risk children, but we also commit ourselves to nurturing them into responsible individuals and community leaders of tomorrow.

How it works
- A welcome kit, a photo, and information about the child you sponsor.
- The opportunity to exchange letters, emails, or cards back and forth to get to know more about the child you sponsor.
- Receive semi-annual updates and communications highlighting sponsorship’s impact on the child you sponsor and other children in the Shelter.
- Annual Zoom calls for you to meet and get to know the child you sponsor.
- Opportunity to visit the Children’s Shelter in Hue upon request and personal expense.
- The joy of gifting a child a brighter future.

Getting Onboard
- By filling out the sponsorship form, take the first step in sponsoring a child from FHF’s Children Center in Hue, Vietnam.
- A committee will carefully select a child for your sponsorship.
- After approximately 2 weeks of signing up to become a sponsor, you will receive a welcome kit in your email.
- The welcome kit will include an introduction to the child you will sponsor, a photo, and more information to get to know the child better and how your help will impact the child’s life.
- You will be able to schedule your first Zoom call with the child you sponsor.
- You will receive a regular newsletter and email communications regarding the child you sponsor and other general information/updates on FHF.

OUR STORY
Friends of Hue Foundation (FHF) was founded in May 2000 in San Jose, California. At the time, Huế, Vietnam’s old capital, had just been struck by a major natural disaster often referred to as the “Flood of the Century.” FHF was initially established to provide relief to Huế’s flood victims, and particularly to house children whose parents were lost to the great flood. Since then, the organization has grown and is now serving underprivileged and at-risk people in the entire vicinity of Huế and neighboring provinces.
Locally, FHF has been a service provider and advocate for the Vietnamese-American and other minority communities in Santa Clara County, focusing on promoting cultural diversity, housing assistance, financial assistance, access to health care, youth leadership, education, and disaster relief.
In 2003, FHF built a shelter in Hue, we call it the “Children’s Center” trying to avoid the stigma that a child may feel when referring to his/her home as an “orphanage” or “shelter”) to provide a home for children who had been deprived of the care of parents and relatives and thus were facing the risk of extreme distress.
The Center not only house these children but also nurtures them with guidance, formal education, and love in a family-like environment. We have continued to do so ever since.
Just as in a family, we want to see the children grow into productive, responsible individuals and contributing members of society. Indeed, many have obtained college degrees or completed vocational training and have become financially independent professionals who are now helping their families and communities.
FHF’s Children’s Center has faced many challenges. In 2005 it was on the brink of closing due to financial difficulties. The appointment of Jenny Do as FHF’s Executive Director was a turning point for the Center. Jenny managed to turn things around, helping FHF to maintain the Children’s Center without interruption.
However, Jenny’s passing in August 2022 was thus a great loss to the FHF family. We honor her dedication to our cause, particularly regarding the Children’s Center. To continue her legacy, we are now launching the “Sponsoring a Child” initiative. We would like to ask you to become an active member of the FHF family by participating in this new endeavor.
